  7. Getting Started Guide
  8. ---------------------
  9. The Getting Started Guide, gstrtman.pdf, is located in the 
  10. Documentation folder where you installed Imaging for Windows 
  11. Professional Edition.  The default location is 
  12. c:\Program Files\Imaging Professional\Documentation.  To view and 
  13. print the Getting Started Guide, you can download Adobe's Acrobat 
  14. Reader from www.adobe.com.
  15.  
  16. Scan Button in Microsoft Word and Excel
  17. ---------------------------------------
  18. You can add the Scan button to Microsoft Word and Excel without 
  19. repeating the installation.  To install the Scan button, run the 
  20. program ADDIcon.exe.  ADDIcon.exe is located in the folder where 
  21. you installed Imaging for Windows Professional Edition.  The default 
  22. location is c:\Program Files\Imaging Professional.
  23.  
  24. ADDIcon installs the Scan button to both applications by default.  
  25. You can choose a specific application by typing /WORD or /EXCEL after 
  26. ADDIcon.exe in the Run dialog.
  27.  
  28. You can remove the Scan button from Microsoft Word and Excel without 
  29. uninstalling Imaging for Windows Professional Edition.  To remove 
  30. the Scan button, run the program DELIcon.exe.  DELIcon.exe is located 
  31. in the folder where you installed Imaging for Windows Professional 
  32. Edition.  The default location is 
  33. c:\Program Files\Imaging Professional.
  34.  
  35. DELIcon deletes the Scan button from both applications by default.  
  36. You can choose a specific application by typing /WORD or /EXCEL after 
  37. DELIcon.exe in the Run dialog.

  39. Application User Interface
  40. --------------------------
  41. You cannot undo or redo a Rescan operation.
  42.  
  43. You must use the mouse to choose an action in the Straighten Page 
  44. dialog.
  45.  
  46. You cannot drag a color or grayscale page to an AWD document.  All 
  47. pages in an AWD document must be black and white.
  48.  
  49. Flow
  50. ----
  51. If you run a flow with an AWD document as input, all pages in the 
  52. output file may be saved at a zoom factor of 100% instead of the zoom 
  53. factor of the pages in the input AWD document.
  54.  
  55. If you specify an invalid folder name for the output document of a 
  56. flow, the flow will not run successfully.
  57.  
  58. You cannot open or run a flow that is an attachment to a mail 
  59. message.  Click Edit -> Save As to save the flow as a file on 
  60. your PC.  You can then open or run the flow.
  61.  
  62. If a flow sends an existing image document, the attachment in the mail 
  63. message uses a temporary file name instead of the document's file 
  64. name.
  65.  
  66. Microsoft Internet Explorer
  67. ---------------------------
  68. If an image document is already open, Microsoft Internet Explorer 
  69. will open the document in read-only mode.
  70.  
  71. If you have configured Microsoft Internet Explorer to use a 
  72. safety level of High, you can access HTML documents that contain 
  73. the Image Edit and Image Thumbnail ActiveX (OLE) controls.
  74.  
  75. Microsoft Office Integration
  76. ----------------------------
  77. If you drag an image document from a binder to the Desktop, an 
  78. invalid image document is created unless it is an AWD document. This 
  79. problem also occurs if you right-mouse click on a binder file (*.obd) 
  80. and click Unbind. To copy an image document from a binder, click on 
  81. Section -> Save as File or use the right mouse button to drag the 
  82. image document from the binder to the Desktop.
  83.  
  84. The Section -> View Outside function does not work with image 
  85. documents in a binder.
  86.  
  87. If you are using Microsoft Office 95, the icon for images in a 
  88. binder is a generic Windows icon instead of the Imaging icon.  
  89. This known anomaly does not affect the behavior of Microsoft 
  90. Office Binder.  The Imaging icon is displayed if you are using 
  91. Microsoft Office 97.
  92.  
  93. When you resize an image embedded in a Microsoft Word document, 
  94. you should be viewing the Microsoft Word document at a zoom of 100%.  
  95.  
  96. OCR and Document Recomposition
  97. ------------------------------
  98. If you select an area of an image and then click Edit->Copy As Text 
  99. or choose Selection as the Page Range in the OCR dialog, Imaging 
  100. automatically analyzes and performs OCR on the selection. Any zones 
  101. within the selection are ignored.
  102.  
  103. You can perform OCR on images at the following resolutions:  100 x 
  104. 200, 200 x 100, 200 x 400, 400 x 200 and images where the X and Y 
  105. resolutions are equal and fall between the values of 70 and 900 dpi. 
  106.  
  107. PaperPort Links
  108. ---------------
  109. When you use the Imaging Export link to export PaperPort documents 
  110. to the file system, you will receive an error if the document title 
  111. contains characters that are not valid in file names - for 
  112. example, * and /. Rename the document before you use the 
  113. Imaging Export link.
  114.  
  115. If the document comments contain carriage returns, only comments up to 
  116. the 1st carriage return appear in the Comments property of the TIFF 
  117. file produced by the Imaging Export link.
  118.  
  119. You may receive an error if you try to export a document with its 
  120. annotations. Check that the files Lead50.dll and Leaddib.drv in your 
  121. Windows\System folder are the same files that shipped with your 
  122. PaperPort software. Lead50.dll should have a size of 509K and a date 
  123. of 5/23/95 while Leaddib.drv should have a size of 38K and a date of 
  124. 4/10/95. If you have different versions of those files on your system, 
  125. you must delete them and install PaperPort again. 
  126.  
  127. Scanning
  128. --------
  129. With certain scanners, the In Progress dialog may become hidden during 
  130. a scan operation.  Click on the scanner icon in the taskbar to 
  131. restore the dialog.
  132.  
  133. Visioneer Scanner Support
  134. -------------------------
  135. Imaging for Windows Professional Edition supports the following 
  136. Visioneer scanners:  PaperPort Vx, PaperPort ix, PaperPort mx, HP 
  137. ScanJet 4s, and the Compaq Scanner/Keyboard.  This support is 
  138. provided via a special version of ScanDirect for Imaging for 
  139. Windows Professional Edition.
  140.  
  141. To use Imaging for Windows Professional Edition with these scanners, 
  142. Visioneer PaperPort 4.0 or later must be installed on your system.  
  143. For your convenience, Visioneer PaperPort 4.0 is included on the 
  144. Imaging for Windows Professional Edition CD-ROM in the folder 
  145. PPort4\Install.  You also have the option to download 
  146. Visioneer PaperPort 4.0 electronically when you download Imaging 
  147. for Windows Professional Edition via the Internet.  Use the serial 
  148. number WANGEAGUB5 when you install the Visioneer PaperPort 
  149. software included with Imaging for Windows Professional Edition.
  150.  
  151. The PaperPort 4.0 Software Getting Started Guide is included on the
  152. Imaging for Windows Professional Edition CD-ROM in the folder 
  153. PPort4\Docs.  You also have the option to download the documentation 
  154. electronically when you download Imaging for Windows Professional 
  155. Edition via the Internet.  To view and print the Getting Started 
  156. Guide, you can download Adobe's Acrobat Reader from www.adobe.com.

  158. If the Imaging for Windows Professional Edition setup program detects 
  159. Visioneer PaperPort 4.0 or later on your system, you are asked 
  160. whether you want Imaging for Windows to be the default viewer for 
  161. your scanner.  If you choose Yes, ScanDirect is added to your Windows 
  162. Startup folder and configured to send scanned documents directly 
  163. to Imaging for Windows Professional Edition.  If you choose No, 
  164. your Visioneer scanner continues to function as before.
  165.  
  166. If you install PaperPort 4.0 after Imaging for Windows Professional 
  167. Edition, you can make Imaging for Windows the default viewer for 
  168. your scanner without repeating the Imaging Professional installation.  
  169. Click on the "Install Visioneer Support" option in your Imaging for 
  170. Windows Professional Edition folder.  The default folder is Imaging 
  171. Professional.
  172.  
  173. A small ScanDirect icon appears in the Windows tray when ScanDirect is 
  174. running.  If you hover your mouse over this icon, you can confirm 
  175. whether Imaging for Windows is the current destination for scanned 
  176. documents.  Click on this icon to display the ScanDirect Control 
  177. Panel where you can select the destination for scanned documents.  
  178. You must minimize, rather than exit, the ScanDirect Control Panel 
  179. in order for Imaging for Windows to continue to receive scanned 
  180. documents from your scanner.
  181.  
  182. If you open the PaperPort Desktop, the ScanDirect target is switched 
  183. to the PaperPort Desktop.  Use the ScanDirect Control Panel to make 
  184. Imaging for Windows Professional Edition the destination for scanned 
  185. documents again.
  186.  
  187. To modify the scanner settings, push the Setup button on your 
  188. scanner.  You can also modify the scanner settings via the ScanDirect 
  189. Control Panel.  Right-mouse click on the Imaging for Windows icon 
  190. and then choose Preferences.   
  191.  
  192. In addition to making Imaging for Windows the default viewer for your 
  193. Visioneer scanner, you can use the standard TWAIN scanning interface.  
  194. The TWAIN scanning interface enables you to use your Visioneer scanner 
  195. with Flow as well as with custom applications that you develop with 
  196. the ActiveX (OLE) controls.  For your convenience, the Visioneer 
  197. TWAIN data source  is included on the Imaging for Windows Professional 
  198. Edition CD-ROM in the folder PPort4\TWAIN. You also have the option 
  199. to download the Visioneer TWAIN data source electronically when you 
  200. download Imaging for Windows Professional Edition via the Internet.  
  201. You must install Visioneer PaperPort 4.0 before you install the 
  202. Visioneer TWAIN data source.
